Ed Baykowski

Experience the sound of the Theatre Pipe Organ

Ed Baykowski’s introduction to music began in kindergarten when he sang a solo in a school musicale. His parents asked if he would like to learn to play an instrument, and at age 5 it all began. His most notable organ teacher was the late Billie Hall, who exhausted him with her 5 hour lessons!

At age 15 Ed began a career as a church organist. He held positions as organist and choir director for two churches during the 1960’s and 1970’s.

He has played intermissions at the Pascack Theatre Wurlitzer, Westwood, NJ, and served as house organist at the Union County Performing Arts Center “Biggest Little Wurlitzer” in Rahway NJ during the 1970’s. At Rahway he performed with the Amazing Kreskin, and accompanied Radio City Music Hall singer Ellen Ettore. He has also performed at the Trenton War Memorial Möller with Miss Terri’s School of Dance.

Ed has concertized for appreciative audiences at the Garden State Theatre Organ Society, the Hammond Organ Society of N.J., the PenNJ Society, the Shore Organ Society, the Monmouth Organ Society, and the “First Thursdays” program at the Rainbow Room Wurlitzer in Rahway. He also serves as organist with the Southwind Chorus in Toms River every year during the Christmas season.

Having earned BS and MA degrees from Seton Hall University, he is a former teacher who retired as a School Business Administrator.

An active GSTOS member, Ed has worked on organ crews for the “Biggest Little Wurlitzer” at the Rahway Theatre, and the 3/12 Robert Morton at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel in North Bergen. He has also served two terms as Secretary / Treasurer for Garden State, and several terms as President of the Hammond Organ Society of New Jersey.
